Cooler Throw Down: Does Ozark Trail Stack up with Yeti and Pelican?

On the contrary, the premium soft coolers and particularly their hard-sided coolers have more of the traditional features we look for when we think of long ice life. So you can expect them to allow for much longer ice retention. We enjoy the premium soft coolers and hard-sided coolers the most.
They don't keep ice quite as long as the Yeti but still hold ice for about 2 days. However, the build quality and durability is not comparable to Yeti and Ozark Trail coolers come with no warranty. I’ll be totally honest, I was not expecting this cooler to be as nice as it was. It’s easy to get caught up in brand perception and often times very difficult to break away from what you think you know about a brand. Overall the Pelican coolers have sharper edges and a bit more of an industrial feel than the competition. One of the first things to note about it’s design is that it has a larger drainage hole and a tethered drain cap, which is a nice feature. I have lost a couple of drain caps in my day which makes the cooler unusable until a replacement arrives. This cooler, when compared to the Pelican 45Q Elite and Yeti Tundra, has the smallest profile while still providing 45Q internal storage. It features rubber latches which I am a huge fan of for boating applications. Eminence, Missouri, is a serene town in the heart of the Mark Twain National Forest, about 150 miles southwest of St. Louis. While the town bustles with life during summer, the colder months offer a peaceful climate perfect for unwinding away from the crowds. Betty Lea Lodge is a well-known getaway that offers discounted rates during the off-season. Another day with mostly sunny skies and dry air in place allowed us to warm up fast after a cold start this morning. We actually saw temperatures this afternoon climb well into the 50s and some of our Weather Watchers had highs go into the 60s before sunset. We’ll trend a bit cooler for Wednesday behind a cold front and with clouds on the way. We’ll still have to wait until our next storm system in the Rocky Mountains can come our way to get rain chances back in the forecast. However, given that it’s Walmart and they are a big box retailer they are often changing their prices. Occasionally selling them for full price, but more often than not selling them for some sort of discount. If getting a great cooler at a great price means making some sacrifices, like not having it made locally, we know there are people who are willing to pay that price. However, if you treat it well you'll get some good performance out of it for a tiny fraction of the price. The M30 also has 2 side handles for carrying with two hands when the cooler is full and heavy or for carrying with a friend. The smaller Yeti Hopper Flip coolers are each equipped with a strong carry handle on the lid of the cooler for easy carrying and also for something to grab onto when opening the zipper. Everything from their bucket to their cargo box to their coolers are made super tough and their soft sided coolers are no exception to this. The Ozark Trail Soft Cooler lineup is a solid contribution to this ever-growing company. There are enough size options and configurations to make most people happy. As is expected, the larger hard-sided coolers had a clear advantage over the soft-sided coolers. They are not only larger but utilize thicker insulation, rubber gaskets, and an overall more ice-friendly design. In addition to this, Ozark Trail also has some more mainstream designs for those who are simply on a tight budget and looking for a product to pack their lunch or picnic in. The Ozark Trail 45 quart cooler is known for its convenience and durability, with an industrial-strength locking plate to keep it sealed tight and wheels for easy transport. Featuring a fish ruler and confirmed bear-resistant by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee, it's perfect for back-country adventures. We’ve found that in cooler temperatures, it keeps things cool for about 4 days but there isn’t any ice left after 4 days. On hot summer days when you can’t get any shade or coverage for the cooler or the van you can count on about 48 hours where there’s still a little ice. (The less you open it, the longer it’ll last so keep the opening and closing to a minimum). All in all, it’s a pretty solid ice chest and a major upgrade from some of the stryofoam and even Rubbermaid coolers of yore. I used the word “think” intentionally, because what I thought I knew about Ozark Trail was not correct. Ozark Trail is proving to be a really solid competitor for outdoor products. This cooler has a number of features that you would find on more expensive coolers and a few that you won’t find. Outside of the premium models (with their thicker insulated shell), these coolers aren’t designed to keep ice for long periods.
